This type of "clipping injury" resulting from a lateral blow to the knee frequently results in injury to the medial collateral ligament. Injuries to the medial meniscus (due to traction forces) or anterior cruciate ligament are commonly associated with MCL injury. Indeed, in this patient, we can also see mildly increased signal of the
distal ACL indicating a low-grade sprain.
