Case 46 - 42 year old female with left knee pain
42 year old female with medial left knee pain.
- This patient has a small joint effusion.
- As we've seen several times before, they also have a double PCL sign indicative of a flipped bucket handle tear of the medial meniscus.
- Note that the ACL blocks the mesial meniscal fragment from fully entering the intercondylar notch; this is why flipped bucket handle tears of the medial meniscus lodge in this characteristic location.
These patient are typically very symptomatic. Early diagnosis is critical as urgent surgery is the only treatment for a flipped bucket handle tear.
