Case 28 - 30 year old male with lateral blow to knee while playing football

The MCL has both superficial and deep components. The deep components anchor the body of the medial meniscus to the juxtaarticular tibia and femur; these fibers are also termed the meniscofemoral and meniscotibial ligaments. The longer superficial component extends from the posterior aspect of the medial femoral condyle approximately 4-5cm above the joint line and inserts distally on the medial tibial shaft approximately 6-7 cm below the joint line. Note the most inferior extent of the MCL is not visualized on this study.
