Case 31 - 32 year old female who suffered a lateral blow to knee during roller derby
32 year old female who suffered a lateral blow to the right knee during roller derby practice.
- With this characteristic history, our suspicions are immediately raised for an MCL injury.
- With our well practiced search pattern this case should be relatively straight-forward. We can immediately identify prominent periligamentous edema around the proximal MCL.
- While the posterior fibers of the MCL appear relatively normal, the anterior fibers appear thickened with areas of high signal centrally; we can even see several areas of discontinuity.
- We don't see any associated injuries to the remainder of the knee indicating an isolated partial tear of the anterior fibers of the MCL.
Given this patient's isolated injury to the anterior fibers of the MCL, she should do well with conservative management.
