Case 13 - 72 y/o female with left hip pain 6814578
Case 13: 72 year old female with a history of breast cancer and left hip pain, concerning for metastatic disease.
- Thickening of the gluteus medius tendon with surrounding T2 hyperintense signal at its insertion along the greater trochanter is compatible with a partial tear/tendinopathy with surrounding inflammatory changes. Clinically, this constellation of findings could manifest as greater trochanteric bursitis, but note no inflamed bursa along the greater trochanter (click here to see a companion case).
- A very subtle linear hyperintense focus along the anterior labrum likely represents a nondisplaced tear.
- Note the very homogeneous and well-preserved marrow signal on the T1 weighted sequences - there was no bone marrow edema or enhancing lesion to suggest a metastatic focus.
