- There is marked T2 hyperintense signal that appears to originate at the anterior inferior iliac spine and tracks inferiorly along the contour of the rectus femoris muscle.
- You can see an avulsed bony fragment of the anterior inferior iliac spine at the origin of the long head of the rectus femoris tendon. Note the gap between the bony fragment and the donor site along the iliac spine. These findings are compatible with an avulsion injury. Avulsion injuries at the anterior inferior iliac spine are caused by forceful extension of the hip.
Remember your pelvic muscle attachments:
Anterior superior iliac spine = sartorius
Anterior inferior iliac spine = rectus femoris
Pubic symphysis = adductors
Ischial tuberosity = hamstrings
Iliac crest = oblique abdominal muscles and tensor fascia lata
