Case 17 - 20 year old female with pain following ACL reconstruction
20 year old female with persistent right knee pain several months following ACL reconstruction.
- Assessment of knee following ACL reconstruction requires assessment of the integrity of the graft, as well as the position and appearance of the femoral and tibial tunnels. In this case the graft appears intact and the position and appearance of the tibial and femoral tunnels are appropriate.
- There's a rounded, low signal soft tissue mass in the intercondylar notch anterior to the tibial insertion of the reconstructed ACL; this lesion is termed anterior arthrofibrosis and is a relatively common complication follow ACL reconstruction, which presents as pain with knee extension.
- This fibrous mass is also termed a "cyclops lesion," because it has the appearance of an pale, bluish eye during arthroscopy.
- This lesion seldom occurs in the absence of ACL reconstruction.
