22 year old female with sudden onset left knee pain while playing soccer.
Patellar dislocations typically occur as a result of an acute injury and often present clinically with medial knee pain. This can be mistakenly on examination for a meniscal tear. Several congenital factors, including a shallow trochlear groove, are though to predispose to patellar dislocation. Note that this patient's patella has not completely reduced, likely as a result of the sizable osteochondral lesion and the ruptured medial patellar retinaculum.
