Case 4: 53 year old female with left hip pain and fever.

A large joint effusion
is seen surrounding the left hip in association with
extensive surrounding muscular edema
with
small lobulated fluid collections
; these findings are compatible with
septic arthritis, infectious myositis, and abscess formation
.
Mild bone marrow edema
within the left femoral neck is also concerning for
early osteomyelitis.
Emergent hip aspiration was culture positive for streptococcus, and urinalysis revealed an unsuspected UTI.
