Case 12 - 24 y/o female athlete with left hip pain 6450855
Case 12: 24 year old female lacrosse player with left hip pain.
- Here is another case where the labrum has lost its normal triangular morphology (click here to compare it to a normal labrum) and clean, solid dark appearance on T2/PD sequences. Note the extensive abnormal signal running through much of the anterior and posterior labrum, often with a globular and cystic appearance, compatible with intra-labral cyst formation.
- Linear hyperintensity cutting through the anterior labrum likely represents a tear.
- Labral injury such as seen in this case is often due to trauma from extreme hip rotation and flexion. Certain sports, such as soccer, gymnastics, golf, and kickboxing can be prone to these injuries.
