- There is a minimally displaced avulsion at the lateral aspect of the right iliac crest.
- Note the extensive T2 hyperintense signal that originates at the site of this avulsion, compatible with muscular edema. The edema can be seen extending through the internal and external obliques, transversus abdominis, iliacus, and gluteal muscles. Some of the fluid signal from the gluteal muscles can be seen tracking inferiorly to the level of the greater trochanter as well.
Remember your pelvic muscle attachments:
Anterior superior iliac spine = sartorius
Anterior inferior iliac spine = rectus femoris
Pubic symphysis = adductors
Ischial tuberosity = hamstrings
Iliac crest = oblique abdominal muscles and tensor fascia lata
